Where to go dancing in Cape Town

If you’re looking to get footloose and set the dance floor on fire with your epic dance moves then Cape Town has just what you’re looking for. There are plenty of clubs in Cape Town, along with dannce floors that cater to every taste. Here are some of our favourites.

Cocoon

Previously called Club 31, Cocoon is the club with the best view in Cape Town.  Their line-up of top local and international DJs promises a sophisticated affair.  You’ll find it in the Absa Centre on Riebeek Street with 360-degree views of the twinkling city lights, Table Mountain, and the harbour from a 31st-storey vantage point.

Coco

Coco on Loop Street in the CBD promises to play you commercial hip-hop, house, and dance in a glamorous setting kitted out for good times. The adjacent Gold Bar by Coco is where you can relax and get a few drinks before heading upstairs to the dance floor.

Arcade

This trendy pizza-spot-by-day turns into a dance and drinks hot spot at night. We recently crowned Bree Street as the hippest strip in town and Arcade certainly adds to the hipster scorecard. The great music and vibe will soon have you convinced of their neon slogans that read “youth has no age” and “it was all a dream”. They’re especially popular on First Thursdays so be sure to get there early.
Long Street

Everyone is a winner on Long Street as this grungy visitor-favourite is lined with restaurants, bars, and clubs that keep the party going well into the early morning hours. We’d highly recommend Sgt. Pepper for alternative music lovers, the Waiting Room for live jams, Fiction Bar for Drum n Bass, 2000 ‘classics’ and everything in between, and Joburg and Marvel for house and hip-hop fans who want to twerk the night away.

Deco Dance

Expect to hear all your favourite hits from the 70s, 80s, and 90s and to have the time of your life when you visit the popular Deco Dance in Sea Point. With three bars and two dance floors (one smoking and one non-smoking), this club is well equipped for fun. It stays open until 4 am and luckily the surrounding fast food establishments are ready to welcome you for a post-party snack in the early hours.

Reset

Reset replaced Era on Loop Street in town and focusses on playing electronic music that celebrates the diversity of Cape Town. The sound is great and the line-up is usually packed so you’ll have a variety to fuel the vibe.

Gandalfs

Home to misfits and outcasts, Gandalfs is for anyone who likes to break it down but can also quote The Lord of the Rings. They have two dance floors specialising in alternative genres with some metal and indie music in the mix. Being in the student-favourite area of Observatory ensures cheap drinks and an eclectic crowd.

The Address

With two dance floors, a restaurant and VIP booths, the Address on Klipfontein Road in Athlone is a snazzy place to enjoy hip-hop beats. The dress code is often trendy casual, but dress your best to avoid feeling left out of this cool crowd.

Shimmy Beach Club

Imagine a beach party with a mega stage, multiple bars, and crowds of locals ready to party and you’ll have an idea of what Shimmy Beach Club is like. You can dance by the poolside in the sand or opt for the VIP area where you’ll get a bird’s eye view and easier bar access. Currently Black Coffee is their resident DJ so you’re guaranteed a world-class show this summer.

Crew Bar

One of Cape Town’s favourite gay clubs, Crew Bar offers a great mix of classics and modern hits, hot half-naked men serving drinks behind (and on top of) the bar, and multiple dance floors. You’ll find it in Green Point’s Cape Quarter area, where there are plenty of restaurants and bars to pre-drink and eat.
