Starting in Cape Town we head south along the Atlantic coast and climb Chapman’s Peak to the
view point over Hout Bay. We cycle through the beautiful coastal town of Kommetjie and past
the Slangkop lighthouse towards Cape Point Nature Reserve passing through the conservation
villages of Misty Cliffs and Scarborough.

Once inside the Nature Reserve we take a leisurely ride up to Cape Point for photo opportunities
and a walk to the lighthouse itself.

After getting some refreshments / lunch we head downhill to the Cape of Good Hope for pictures
and then it’s a short stop at the Cape Point Ostrich Farm before our onward cycle to Simon’s
Town where we call in at Boulders Beach, home to the penguins.

Once we are ready to proceed we cross the Peninsula at its narrowest point from Fish Hoek over
to Noord Hoek. We traverse Chapman’s Peak in the opposite direction back down to Hout Bay
via Llandudno to Cape Town.

An alternative option is starting and finishing the above at our base in Fish Hoek. This
would then be a distance of 80km or 50 miles approx over undulating terrain.

Today we leave and drive over to Storms River, on the Garden Route. After booking into The Tsitsikamma Lodge you can explore the village. Lots to do so worth a couple of days here to join in the activities such as canopy tree tours (we really enjoyed this and you can get a video of it to keep) also there’s white water tubing, again a great experience and we would also combine this with a cycle to the Storms River Mouth and the “Big Tree” in the indigenous Tsitsikamma Forest. Day 4

We descend into Nature’s Valley which boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa. We cycle through the seaside resort of Plettenberg Bay towards Knysna and on route stop off at the monkey sanctuary- www.monkeyland.co.za. Day 5 &6

Today we continue along the Indian Ocean through Sedgefield and Wilderness nature area before heading inland over the Outeniqua Pass towards Oudtshoorn, famous for the Cango Caves and it’s Ostriches. Day 7

We are collected from Oudtshoorn and transported along the magnificent Swartberg Mountains.We reach Calitzdorp, the port wine capital of SA, where we can take in a port tasting. Over the Huisrivier pass and continuing along the World’s longest wine route(R62) we stop for lunch at the quaint village of Barrydale. Over the magnificent Tradouws mountain pass we reach Swellendam, the third oldest town in South Africa. Today we spend the day cycling around Franschoek taking in the vineyards and the amazing scenery. DAY 1

Pick up from Cape Town and transportation to Elgin / Grabouw where your tour begins.

Take the R321 over Viljoens Pass and then off road into Graymead to the edge of Theewaterskloof Dam. After crossing the Draaiberg Bridge follow the R45 through to Franschhoek over the magnificent pass (700m) where you will spend the evening after off roading on the Robertsvlei wine track.

This is a distance of around 50 KM.

DAY 2



Today you head off road through the Boshendal and Languedoc tracks and then through Ida’s Valley nearer town, which has the Rustenburg Vineyards, after traversing the famous Helshoogte Pass enroute. We cycle through the Jonkersberg Plantation, a circular bike ride right into the mountains.

The distance here is around 50 KM. Overnight in Stellenbosch.

There is a choice of accommodation which we can discuss you at time of enquiry.

Further option of staying in the area for another day to explore the Devon Valley amongst others and even the chance to see a cheetah sanctuary nearby!

DAY 3



Head down the R44 taking the Stellenrust track turn off, across Annandale and then joining the R310 back into Fish Hoek along the coast road. Depending on the time of year a chance to see whales, dolphins and seals.

Distance here again is around 50 KM.

Wine and/or cheese tastings as well as cellar tours can be done on most vineyards simply by turning up on the day. No pre bookings are necessary; the same applies for the restaurants along the route too.

Today we leave by coach and drive over to Storms River loaded with our bikes and trailer. Our first full cycling leg takes us along the wooded plateau of the Tsitsikamma Forest before we descend into a deep valley comprising lush indigenous forest. This area is known as Nature’s Valley and boasts one of the most beautiful beaches in South Africa. Back on the plateau, we cycle through the seaside resort of Plettenberg Bay where we have lunch at Moby Dick’s (62kms) before continuing our journey through to the town of Knysna. The town is known for its “Knysna Heads”, two massive rocks guarding the entrance to the Knysna lagoon. Day 4

We pass over the gently sloped Outeniqua Pass continuing along the Indian Ocean where we break for lunch at Victoria Bay before continuing on to the coastal town of Mossel Baai (Mussel Bay), the first landing place of Bartholmeu Diaz after rounding the Cape of Good Hope in 1485. A Padrao (Portuguese marker) marks the spot along with the ‘Post Office Tree’ used by sailors to leave their letters for home for ships passing the other way. We lodge in a converted railway carriage called ‘the Santos Express’ for a unique experience of staying on a real train only 30 metres from the sea with wonderful views from your window! http://www.santosexpress.co.za

Heading north takes us from the evergreen coast into the semi arid Klein Karoo. We will arrive in Oudtshoorn, which is known as the ”ostrich capital”, after climbing the Robinson pass(500m) en route. We have a picnic at the top before we descend down and visit Safari Ostrich farm before we take over the ‘Karoo Soul travel lodge’ for the night! This Tudor mansion on more than 4000m² is a piece of magic. It has it all.

Day 6 - Easier Day!

After a good days cycling, it’s back to where it all began for 2 nights at The Backpack & African Travel centre for a well deserved sleep.

Day 8

The final day consists of a guided city center walk including castle entry then a hike up Table Mountain with the cable car down. What a way to finish!
