Once inside the Nature Reserve we take a leisurely ride up to Cape Point for photo opportunities
and a walk to the lighthouse itself.

After getting some refreshments / lunch we head downhill to the Cape of Good Hope for pictures
and then it’s a short stop at the Cape Point Ostrich Farm before our onward cycle to Simon’s
Town where we call in at Boulders Beach, home to the penguins.
(Overnight here for the 2 day tour in Simon’s Town)

Boulders Beach & Simon’s Town

Once we are ready to proceed we cross the Peninsula at its narrowest point from Fish Hoek over

via Llandudno to Cape Town.
(The above is 150 km or 95 miles approx over undulating terrain)

This option ensures exclusivity for the individual or group with a coach especially assigned to cater for your individual needs. Transported or self-drive option available.
If you have previous surfing experience and wish to improve on your skills, kindly inform us at the time of booking so we can update your coach.
Extra participants will be charged at group lesson rates. For groups of 7 of more wanting exclusivity, regular group rates apply.
Our headquarters are located in Camps Bay so that we have easy accessibility to both coastlines of the Peninsula. Lessons take place at the most suitable beach depending on the conditions on the day of your booking. We check the forecast on several reliable sources and combine this information with our local knowledge to decide where we will coach each day. We consider factors such as wind, tides, swell direction and ocean temperatures before making our decision to provide the safest and most enjoyable experience.
Surf lessons are 2-hours long and include the use of:
• 4:3mm wetsuit
• suitable surfboard
• leash
• wax
• We use quality 4:3mm wetsuits to keep you warm throughout the year. Wetsuits are well maintained-washed and rinsed after each use. We use beginner specific softboards for those who have never touched a surfboard or only surfed a handful of times. These boards are easy to catch waves with and make standing easier as they are stable. If you have a bit more surfing experience and are wanting to use a regular epoxy/fibreglass board, kindly let us know at the time of booking.
• For the self-drive option, we will advise (via email or sms) the beach we will be operating the lesson on at least 24 hours in advance.
• For the transported option, we offer pick ups from locations in Cape Town city and surrounds (see pick up area list below). If you are located outside of the pick up area, we will ask you to meet us at a pre-arranged location in the city. If you are staying at a private residence/Airbnb etc, we will ask you to meet us at one of our regular pick up points closest to your accommodation. We will transport you to the beach in our comfortable van or our original surf school VW golf. Please note that whilst you will be assigned your private surf coach at the beach, you may share the transfer to the beach with other group lesson participants. If you are wanting a lesson outside our regular lesson time slots, we will try our best to accomodate your request if we are able to.
• The following is the pick up schedule for our morning and afternoon lesson slots (please note the suburb your lodging is located in to determine your approximate pick up time):
• Camps Bay: 8:00-8:15am OR 1:00-1:15pm
• City & Sea Point : 8:15-8:30am OR 1:15-1:30pm

• Woodstock: 8:45-9:00am OR 1:45-2:00pm

If you opt for the self-drive option, we will send details 24 hours in advance of where and when to meet us. Upon arrival at the beach, we change into our wetsuits and hit the surf for a 2- hour lesson.

We offer various options on Table Mountain.

Our popular half-day hikes normally make use of the well-known Cableway to descend the mountain after hiking to the top.

Full-day hikes allow for seeing more of the mountain and often involve hiking both up and down, avoiding the cable car.

We also offer overnight hiking on the Hoerikwaggo Trail or by making use of the various guest houses situated conveniently along the foot of the mountain. Please see our Table Mountain Trail page and consult with us for overnight hiking options

What is scrambling?
Scrambling refers to very easy rock climbing and/or boulder hopping needed to negotiate an obstacle. On scrambling routes you can expect to have to use your hands to hold onto the rock and you may have to cross more difficult and exposed terrain. Our guides will always assist you on these parts of the route and may even rope you up for some of the climbing to ensure your safety. Following a scrambling route is an exciting and fun way of getting up the mountain and seeing the lesser known parts, away from the main tourist routes.
Who can join a hike?
Any reasonably healthy and fit person is welcome. You do not have to be a marathon runner or even a regular hiker!

Our guides set an acceptable pace that suits the group and the terrain. Because of the proximity of the mountain to the City we are seldom pressed for time and we allow generous opportunity to relax and enjoy nature

Difficulty & fitness
There are so many options available for hiking on Table Mountain that we able to cater for all age groups and all levels of fitness and experience.

This is a two-day trip with an overnight in the reserve.

A walk all the way along the Indian Ocean sea cliffs to the rugged and rocky Cape Point where the legendary ghost ship, the Flying Dutchman, has been sighted over the years.

Overnighting at the hut shelters, and continuing the following day to explore the historic lighthouses, Dias Beach and the Southern Western most part of the Cape of Good Hope, along the Atlantic Ocean, closing the circular route back to where the trail set off.

This is a one-day trip.

A full day outing to the Cape of Good Hope, which includes a 3 hour circular hike along wild beaches to shipwrecks lodged in the sand, returning inland through the unique Fynbos vegetation. This is an “A’-Grade route, with very little uphill.

After the hike, we travel by road to Cape Point and walk to the Old and New Lighthouses. We also visit the most south-western point of the Africa, the Cape of Good Hope. Depending on your preference and time, a stop at Boulders Beach penguin colony can be arranged and provides great opportunities to see these birds up close. Ending off the day at a local favourite for a feast of seafood.

Wine estates on this Route

Kanonkop

Situated just below the Simonsberg Mountains where they cultivate some of South Africa’s highest quality wines, Kanonkop is a fourth generation family estate currently in the hands of Paul & Johann Krige. Nestled in the Simonsberg area, also known as the “red wine bowl”, it thus it has a wide variety of red wines including their prestigious Kanonkop Pinotage. Their year round traditional Snoek Braai (fish barbeque) is a culinary delight, but requires a booking of 15 or more people and their summer cheese platters below the oaks is a red wine tasting experience of grand proportions.

Muratie

Hidden away in the Knorhoek Valley in the North of Stellenbosch, Muratie Wine Estate, owned by Rijk Melck and his family is an experience not to be missed. The farm dates back to 1685 and is the epicenter of many colourful stories and characters that have been revived through the naming of their wines. Muratie keeps the tone set just right with the cobwebs on the very old wine bottles and a very cozy setting in their tasting room. The wines at Muratie are truly a great tasting experience.

L’Avenir

L’Avenir Vineyards combine Stellenbosch sunshine with French inspiration to produce wines that capture the everyday sunny essence of the estate with light-hearted flash of French. They focus on producing not only elegant wines but also wines that showcase their unique setting. Two great cornerstones in the South African wine industry would be the Chenin Blanc and also the great South African Pinotage. A big focus of this winery is delicacy and balance, and these qualities are kept in mind throughout the whole experience.

Cape Town has one of the best locations to see the Sunset from the Sea. With the Atlantic Ocean stretching away from the majestic Table Mountain range, this is certainly a ‘must do’ cruise for locals and tourists alike. Toast the setting sun from the deck of a luxury vessel with a complimentary glass of local sparkling wine. (A glass per guest, or a bottle for a couple.) A cash bar is available for other drink requirements, including soft drinks. Kids are welcome, and have a special price option, but remember it is an adult cruise so no alcohol served to minors! Cape Town weather can change 5 times a day, so our route from the harbour is not always predictable; the two options below are merely a guide. But no matter which direction we take be assured of a spectacular cruise.

SUNSET UNDER SAIL
The sailboats Esperance and Serenity One follow the wind for this cruise. They do not offer a specific destination for this reason; you will be advised before departure as to the expected direction. The typical Cape Town summer wind blows from the south-east; the boats use the motors to leave the harbour and then they sail across Table Bay towards Milnerton lighthouse, returning to the protection of Granger Bay in the lee of Table Mountain to watch the sunset, and then motor back to the Waterfront.

In winter months with the northwester prevalent, the direction taken will be toward the Clifton Coastline, or the Robben Island Coastline, also returning to Granger Bay. The wind and sea conditions change daily so the routing and style of the trip also change to meet the conditions; the skipper and crew will give you the best possible adventure.

SUNSET ON A MOTOR VESSEL
The Motor Vessels Sea Princess and Southern Cross follow a different route to the sailing boats. As they are not dependant on the wind they offer a destination and normally cruise slowly along the Atlantic seaboard towards Clifton beach and then return.

Wildlife on our game reserve
Started in 1999 the wildlife reintroduction has seen the return of elephant, white rhino, lion and buffalo to the area. Antelope such as the Cape Eland, kudu, black wildebeest, zebra, springbok and gemsbok are now at home on the grassy plains. Smaller resident mammals such as the shy Cape Fox, bushbuck, caracal, bat eared fox, duiker and the elusive Cape Mountain leopard are a rare treat to spot on safari.

Garden Route Game Lodge was the first reserve in the Western Cape to reintroduce cheetah in 2007 and through our co-operation with the Endangered Wildlife Trust we have played a role in increasing the meta population of this threatened species in South Africa.

flora fauna
Fynbos and Aloes
Fynbos is the natural shrubland or heathland (habitat) vegetation occurring in a small belt of the Western Cape of South Africa, mainly in winter rainfall coastal and mountainous areas with a Mediterranean climate.

The fynbos ecoregion is within the Mediterranean forests, woodlands, and scrub biome.

Fynbos is home to an amazing diversity of plant species including many members of the Protea Family, Heath family, and Reed family of restios. The nearby town Albertinia is the heart of the thatching reed business which makes use of the female restio plant.

Aloes such as the Cape Aloe or Aloe Ferox occur in abundance and are still sustainably harvested or “tapped” for their healing characteristics using the same method traditional method of the Bushman.

FYNBOS
Fynbos is a type of heath land unique to the Western Cape of South Africa. It is the richest floral kingdom in the world. The Green Mountain Trail walks through the Kogelberg Biosphere, a 100,000 hectare area that is home to 1900 plant species – the densest in the world. Listed as an UNESCO World Heritage Site there are several endemics, among them the Marsh Rose (Orothamnus zeyheri), the Silver Pagoda (Mimetes hottentoticus) and Mimetes stockii.

FARMS
All the farms we visit are family owned and each has its own story.

BEAUMONT is a charming family-run farm and winery and is the final stop on the Green Mountain Trail where lunch and wine-tasting is enjoyed. It has the region’s oldest wine cellar, and is steeped in history, dating back to the 1700s.

OAK VALLEY is one of the largest in the area known for its fruit, cut flowers, beef cattle and for its high quality, cool climate, wines. It also produces acorn-fed, free range pork, that source their food from the 4,000 plus oak trees that give the farm its name.

PAUL CLUVER covering an area of over 2,000 hectares this is the largest farm in the Green Mountain Trail family. Half of the estate has been set aside for conservation into perpetuity. The farming of apples and pears is combined with a Hereford stud and ecotourism activities, including outdoor concerts, and adds to the wine production activities of the estate.

PORCUPINE HILLS is an olive farm and is the starting point for the walk. Black eagles nest on the cliffs directly above the homestead. The farm also boasts a large expanse of renosterveld, an endangered feature in the Cape Floral Kingdom.

WILDEKRANS COUNTRY HOUSE is a historic 1811 homestead with a rambling country garden. Home to a private collection of South African contemporary art and antique furniture, the atmosphere is relaxed, quirky and ancient, all rolled into one.

FOOD
The combination of fresh air and hiking never fails to build an appetite. The diversity of the area is also be appreciated by the palate where the food and wines enjoyed by trailists reflect the differences in soils and rainfall. Feedback from walkers describes the food as: ‘a veritable feast’ and ‘it’s as much a gourmet experience as it is a hike’. The cuisine is seasonal and fresh, produced on many of the participant farms. Apricots and apples, watermelon and winter melon, plums and peaches are just a few of the locally grown ingredients that find their way onto the dinner plates of Green Mountain Trail walkers.
Walkers frequently ask for the recipes of the dishes served on the trail so we figure we’re on the right track! Some of the favourites are: melanzane, slow-cooked lamb shanks, fresh herbed fish poached in Sauvignon blanc, and berry pavlova.

FURRIES
On the higher reaches of the walk hikers may catch sight of klipspringers standing like sentinels against the sky. Nesting Verreaux’s eagles is another special for the area.

Bontebok, grysbok, duiker, eland, zebra, springbok may all be seen on the plains while secretive leopard and caracal slip by unseen or by night.

With over 200 species of birds sighted in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve the walker can expect to be rewarded with sunbirds, sugarbirds and many others. The evocative cry of the fish eagle may also be heard in the silence of the wild.

With over 200 species of birds sighted in the Kogelberg Biosphere Reserve the walker can expect to be rewarded with sunbirds, sugarbirds and many others. The evocative cry of the fish eagle may also be heard in the silence of the wild.
