The first photo stop is at Maiden’s Cove. From this magnificent lookout visitors have a glimpse of Cape Town’s beaches awarded blue flag status by The Discovery Travel Channel and also rated by Forbes as one of the Top 10 Topless beaches in the world.





The tour then continues through Camps Bay, along the curved coastal road set against the Twelve Apostles en route to Hout Bay, a charming fishing hamlet set in one of many valleys along the Atlantic Seaboard of the Cape Peninsula. Here we visit the historical and still-working fishing harbor where visitors get to test their bargaining skills against that of the local crafters as you browse for souvenirs. In Hout Bay you can enjoy some of the best fish and chips in the world. Alternatively guests can (on their own account) also take this opportunity to enjoy a short boat trip to Seal Island where more than 70 000 South African fur seals laze around on the rocks or frolic in the freezing water of the Atlantic.





Leaving Hout Bay, guests are treated to one of the highlights of the day: Chapman’s Peak Drive. Carved out of the face of the near-vertical western flank of the mountain range, this spectacular drive was regarded as a major engineering feat at its completion. This dramatic drive ends with panoramic views across the bay and an overview of the 8km long, unspoiled soft white sandy beaches of Noordhoek.





Now the tour makes its way toward the crème de la crème, the best of the best: The Cape of Good Hope. Situated in 17 750 hectares of nature reserve and home to a variety of wildlife, this expanse of land has captured the imagination of European sailors from the moment they first laid eyes upon it. From the still functional lighthouse at the most south western point of the African continent, guests overlook the mythical place where the Atlantic and Indian Oceans meets.





After leaving The Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, the tour continues to Boulders Beach, where guests are afforded the unique opportunity to view a colony of African Jackass Penguins at close range. This endangered land-based penguin colony at Boulders Beach is one of only a few in the world, and viewing is facilitated by the recently constructed boardwalks taking you within a few meters of the birds.





The tour then continues through Simons Town, home to the South African Navy. One last mountain pass offers guests their first panoramic view across False Bay, the Indian Ocean and the greater peninsula before making the journey back into the city. The tour departs from the city, along the N1 highway en route to Paarl, Franschhoek and Stellenbosch; towns not only celebrated for their wines but also for a variety of cheeses, olives and much more.
First stop, Paarl. Originally called Tortoise Mountain by the indigenous Khoikhoi and San people, Paarl is said to have been renamed in 1657 when Dutch settlers, who after a rainstorm, saw the large granite outcrop glistening in the new sun, hence naming it “de Diamondt en de Peerlberg” (Diamond and Pearl Mountain) from which the now name “Paarl” was derived.
On our arrival at Paarl, we pass by the Afrikaans Language Monument en route to our first wine tasting stop at the Fairview Wine & Cheese Estate. Situated on 350 hectares of decomposed granite soil on the south western slopes of the Paarl Mountain, Fairview Wine Estate is one of the pioneers of wine production in the region. Guests are invited to taste and pair their favourite premier tiered wines with a variety of goats cheeses on offer in the delightfully relaxing ambiance of what was formerly one of the farm’s old wine cellars. A tour of the cellars and an overview of the production processes can be included on request.
Paarl is the third oldest town in South Africa (after Cape Town and Stellenbosch) and gained international attention on 11 February 1990 when Nelson Mandela was release from one of the prisons here, then called Victor Verster Correctional Centre. After leaving Fairview Wine Estate, we stop at the gates of the prison for a brief photo stop at Nelson Mandela’s world renowned “Long Walk to Freedom” statue before continuing to Franschhoek.
In and amongst a wealth of natural rustic beauty lay opulent wine estates that produce the crisp white wines and classic French-style red wines that this region has become known for.
Meaning “French Corner”, Franschhoek was first settled into in 1688 by French Huguenot refugees who were given land by the Dutch government. Shortly after their introduction into the region, many of the estates were named after the areas in France from which the refugees came i.e. La Motte, Champagne Estates, etc. and produced wines sought after by Napoleon, Bismarck and more.
In Franschhoek, we drive to the top of the mountain pass for a photo stop with panoramic views back across the valley. On return down the mountain pass, guests are invited to leisurely self-walk the streets of this historically preserved Cape Dutch town and browse through a variety of boutique stores. While here, guests are presented with an exquisite choice of lunch venues to choose from.
If time allows, guests are treated to another wine tasting en route to Stellenbosch.
Second only to Cape Town itself, Stellenbosch is the next oldest town and European settlement in South Africa. Departing from Cape Town city centre, the first stop is in the Bo Kaap. Here we discuss why the arrival of a small expedition of Dutch sailors in 1652 proved to be a monumental turning point in the South African history. Taking a short walk along the romantic cobble stone streets between the brightly coloured homes, your tour guide explains how the framework for racial segregation was established.

Passing some of Cape Town’s landmarks, a short drive brings us to District 6 where we elaborate on the next tier in the South African story: Apartheid South Africa. Once in District 6, we drive through the now decaying ruins of what once was a flourishing mixed race community where 60 000 people lived and worked, but was demolished only to be reserved exclusively for whites. We further elaborate on the introduction of Apartheid, the legislation to justify the demolition of District 6, and the consequences thereof.

The journey continues to Langa, the oldest Black African Township in Cape Town. Along the way we elaborate on the restrictive legislation introduced by the Apartheid regime to enforce racial segregation. On arrival in Langa, we have a photo stop at the site that commemorates the student uprising of 1976, discuss the Pass Laws and the barracks built for African migrant workers.
Now en route to Khayelitsha, we start introducing the last (but most important) leg of the tour: The New South Africa. On arrival in Khayelitsha, reputed to be the largest and fastest growing township in South Africa, the first stop is at the Philani Health and Nutrition Project where guests interact with local mothers who participate in a Women’s Empowerment Programme initiated by Swedish doctor, Dr. Ingrid le Roux.

Depending on a range of variables (i.e. day of the week, time of day, size of the group, etc.) the tour takes on a variety of formats to best suit the guests on the day. Options include visiting a school where guests are entertained by the choir; always an overwhelming experience. Alternately a visit to the Iliso Care Society, a multi faceted outreach programme that includes a soup kitchen, day care centre, sewing project and youth choir amongst other things. Regardless of the format, every single encounter promises to be a potentially life changing experience where cultural values and personal experiences are exchanged at first hand with the locals.

The Castle of Good Hope is a star fort built in the 17th century. Originally located on the coastline of Table Bay, following land reclamation the fort is now located in the heart of the city. The Castle is the oldest existing colonial building in South Africa and is considered the best preserved example of a Dutch East Indian Company fort in the world which also serves as a museum.

Positioned up against the neckline of Signal Hill, the Malay Quarter (also known as the Bo-Kaap) is a charming and energetic area that was somehow bypassed in the forced removal policies of the Apartheid government. In the early 18th century, a multitude of slaves from Java, Ceylon and other Far Eastern regions were brought to Cape Town, with their descendants known as the Cape Malay’s having settled here after slavery was abolished. This area is characterised by its multi-coloured cottages and steep cobbled streets, as well as its exotic Malay culture. No tours in the Mother City would be complete without a visit to the Bo-Kaap.
